Make Homeschooling Days Easier With a Science Experiments Basket

For the first time since I started homeschooling over 8 years ago, all three of my children are taking separate science courses with separate hands-on activities and experiments in all of them!  Duncan (4th) is working through Bob Jones Science 3, Mason (6th) is taking Apologia General Science, and Amber is taking Apologia Biology.  All three of the courses have lots of hands-on activities and experiments and we do them all here.

Preparing a science experiments basket over the week-end has helped tremendously in making the week's science activities go much smoother.  What's a science experiments basket?  In the science experiments basket, I gather ALL of the needed materials for ALL of the hands-on activities and experiments that will be completed in my children's science courses in a particular week.
It definitely takes some time over the week-end to locate all of the odds and ends that will be needed in the week ahead but it is SO worth it during the week.  As well, by preparing the basket over the week-end, my husband can help me locate any items that I can't find here in the house.  For example, this week I needed a metal ruler and a c-clamp.  My husband was happy to find those items for me in the garage and he appreciated that he could look for them when it was convenient for him.

Preparing a science experiments basket ahead of time also helps in making sure all of those fun hands-on activities in the science book don't get skipped because you just don't have a particular item right then.  Science is so much more fun and educational when it is hands-on!  By setting aside a time to prepare for all of the week's upcoming science activities, you can make sure you have the red cabbage, the balloon, the 2 plastic cups, the one gold brad......................and everything else you need for the week so you can see your kids do fun activities and love science!
