Christmas Gifts From the Knifty Knitter

For some reason, the coming of July always makes me think of Christmas.  Perhaps it's the hot temperatures, which I dislike, that makes the chilly temps of December seem more desirable.  More likely, though, is that the beginning of July marks that the first half of the year has passed.  Autumn (my favorite season) is truly around the corner now, with the Christmas season coming fast at Autumn's heels.

I love Christmas, I love everything about Christmas.  We are even starting school quite early this year (August 2nd) so we can enjoy a longer Christmas break.

My daughter loves Christmas as well.  She also loves giving handmade presents.  Last Christmas, almost everybody on her Christmas list received a handmade, knitted hat or scarf.  She makes lovely knitted hats and scarves using the Knifty Knitter.

In the picture below, Amber poses with her sweet Auntie Kim, displaying the matching hats that Amber knitted for them.

Auntie Kim's twin brother, my husband, also received a knitted cap in the colors of the children's swim team.

Amber's adorable little brother also received a knitted cap in Christmas colors.

One of her dearest friends received this lovely rainbow scarf.
Lastly, here is a sampling of other knitted hats that Amber made for gifts last Christmas.  Aren't they fabulous?

Making handmade gifts for Christmas requires a great deal of foresight.  Amber started knitting her gifts early in 2009 and really got busy with the knitting when fall rolled around.

Amber doesn't enjoy knitting as much when the weather is warm but she is currently working on a service project.  She is making baby caps to donate to a local pregnancy crisis center.  The caps are beyond adorable - I'll be sure to post pictures when she has a few different colors done.

So, are you or your kids getting started on handmade Christmas presents?  What are you making?  I'd love to hear your ideas!
